Eating habits are changing, slowly but surely, and menu planning for events has adapted to incorporate foods that everyone can eat, regardless of dietary needs. The rise of the gluten-free diet has been steady for us at Birchtree, as we’re seeing it more often as a choice, rather than a restriction, among many guests.
Celiac’s Disease is a serious autoimmune disorder caused by gluten, which is why we initially began creating menu items specifically for the gluten-free eater. But much like dairy, we’re hearing more and more about gluten intolerance or sensitivity, because really, people don’t always feel great after eating gluten, even if they haven’t been diagnosed with something more serious.
When Birchtree creates new menu items, we don’t just modify a dish to make it work for dietary purposes, we actually create dishes that fit the needs of our well-rounded food-conscious clients and their guests, whether it’s gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, or dairy-free.
While our full menu includes gluten-free items like entrées, sides, and desserts, today we’re sharing our list of favorite gluten-free appetizers, because TBH appetizers are my favorite food.
Typically we offer 5 passed apps for cocktail hours, more for longer cocktail events. We balance the menu by encouraging clients to choose at least 2 gluten free options and 2 vegan options, if not more.
